Magica De Spell is the evil aunt of Lena, Poe De Spell's older twin sister, and is a major antagonist in the 2017 reboot TV series DuckTales. She serves as the main antagonist of Season 1 and a major antagonist in the second and third seasons.
She once served as a temporary ally to her niece Lena, whom she quickly betrays after getting her powers back. She was a recurring antagonist from the original series. She is one of the three second-most personal arch-nemesis of Scrooge McDuck, alongside Flintheart Glomgold and Ma Beagle.

Magica De Spell is a major villain from the Scrooge McDuck comics, created by Carl Barks. An evil sorceress, Magica first appeared in Barks' comic "The Midas Touch" in December of 1961. Her goal is to obtain Scrooge's Number One Dime, in order to be able to make an amulet that will give her the Midas Touch.
Physical Appearance[]
She first appeared in the form of a black shadow with red glowing eyes in "The Beagle Birthday Massacre!", but made her first speaking appearance in "Terror of the Terra-firmians!" In "The Shadow War!" after she got Scrooge's Number One Dime, she gained her physical appearance: a tall, slender, slick green-feathered duck, with an amber bill, yellow eyes with paler sclera and small, triangle-shaped pupils, fluttery-like eyelashes, a small tail, and neck-length black hair with a single dark purple streak on the right. Her attire features an almost all black-color scheme with shades of purple; a thick black choker around her neck, and a black hooded-cape with fuchsia inner lining, held by an oval-shaped purple jewel. Her cape also holds her sleeveless black dress that has a few rips at the bottom, followed by a set of arm-length, black fingerless gloves. She is also barefoot, often showing her webbed-feet, but as of "The Phantom and the Sorceress!" she started wearing low-heeled shoes. When her staff is broken and she loses her magic, her feathers turn from green to white. However, at the end of "The Phantom and the Sorceress!" she obtains the amulet back from Lena, giving her powers back, and her feathers become green again.
Personality[]
Magica is a cruel, persistent, ambitious and flamboyant witch, who aims to steal Scrooge's Number One Dime to free herself, and uses her niece Lena to retrieve it for her. She is also vain and narcissistic, believing that being a powerful sorceress entitles her to do whatever she wants and does not care for the harm she inflicts on others such as using Lena or endangering Scrooge's family.
After losing her powers, her threatening and intimidating exterior varnish, revealing an emotionally frail, petty, miserable and melancholic woman with a massive inferiority complex. In her next appearance, in "A Nightmare on Killmotor Hill!", her sanity has finally slipped and was forced to steal scavenged tech to get inside Lena's head to get her powers back, only to fail again. She also hates children. Despite being powerless, she still hasn't learned anything from her past experience and doesn't show remorse over her actions.
Despite her being cruel to almost everyone, it is revealed in her youth, she and her twin brother Poe ruled over a village together. Both of them cared deeply for each other, which is the only example of compassion she has ever shown. When she accidentally turned her brother into a crow, she begged for Scrooge's help to prevent her brother from flying off, offering him everything she had, including her power and magic, but he chose to ignore her pleas as Poe flew away and she never saw her brother again. Because Scrooge refused to help her, such a loss fueled much of her hatred towards him.

- Master Sorceress: Magica De Spell is a powerful sorceress who is well versed in many forms of magic, from Sumerian to Demogorgon. She carries a staff with a Sumerian medal as its headpiece, which amplifies her powers. She has more abilities than your average magic-user.
- Magic: As a sorceress, she is well versed in many forms of magic from Sumerian to Demogorgon, she possesses extensive knowledge of magic, and with the usage of the Sumerian Talisman, she has more abilities than your average magic-user. She is also capable of spellcasting.
- Telekinesis: Magica can lift heavy objects with her mind as in the episode "The Shadow War!", when she levitates her staff towards her, and forms a claw out of gold coins.
- Levitation: One of the few powers she used before obtaining the Sumerian Talisman back from Lena, she is capable of hovering a few feet in the air her own.
- Magic: As a sorceress, she is well versed in many forms of magic from Sumerian to Demogorgon, she possesses extensive knowledge of magic, and with the usage of the Sumerian Talisman, she has more abilities than your average magic-user. She is also capable of spellcasting.

- Shadow Physiology: After getting locked in the Number One Dime, she cast a spell that turned her own shadow into a living person, Lena. She can communicate with Lena by appearing in her shadow but disappears when Lena is in the dark. She cannot physically touch anything, but she can hear and see what is happening around her.
- Intangibility: In her shadow form due to not possessing is physical body she is not bound by physical laws meaning she can phase through walls.
- Possession: In her shadow form Magica is able to take control of the victim's bodies as she did to Lena. As expected, this ability is limited to her shadow form.
- Voice Mimicry: When possessing a person's body, Magica is able to perfectly imitate their voice, as well as being able to switch back to her own voice.
Equipment[]
- Sumerian Talisman/Amulet/Staff: Although Magica De Spell is a powerful sorceress, she somewhat relies on the Talisman merged with that of her twin brother to carry out her most powerful spells. Without it, she is only capable of basic magic. While originally having been two amulets owned by Magica and her brother Poe De Spell, Magica fused them together after her brother was turned into a raven and disappeared thanks to Scrooge McDuck. Magica often fuses the two amulets together to create a single amulet or a magic staff with a glowing purple orb on the top. After the events of the Shadow War, Magica's amulet has a crack on it, and when she turns it into her staff, the orb also has a crack on it.
- Hunter's Stone: Is a ruby-like artifact used by Lena Sabrewing and Magica De Spell in an attempt to acquire Scrooge McDuck's Number One Dime. When the artifact was thrown into the Money Bin, it began to accumulate mass using the money to create the large money shark Tiffany. It was eventually destroyed along with Tiffany by Lena using her magic to save Webby Vanderquack.
- Ghost-Banishing Amulet: Is a purple amulet owned by Magica De Spell. It has the power to banish any ghostly being from their location. It only appeared in "GlomTales!", where Magica used it to blast Duckworth out of McDuck Manor.

- However, she is written as Italian.
- Thanks to Lena wearing the medallion, Magica was able to assume a visible form, manifesting through warping Lena's own shadow.
- She is among one of the four main antagonists of the series appearing within the Season 2 intro, alongside Ma Beagle, Flintheart Glomgold, and Mark Beaks.
- The crew considered giving Magica an Italian accent, but refrained from doing so because they felt like it made her into a broad Italian stereotype.[1]
